This year is the UCL bicentenary and the 40th birthday of the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) and this symposium is a joint celebration of the collaboration and impact that UCL’s Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) have had on outcomes for children and families affected by rare diseases in the UK and beyond.

The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh is hosting their Basic Skills in Paediatric Surgery course on 24th September 2026 in Edinburgh. Ideal for CT1-ST5 trainees, this excellent value course will cover a broad mix of skills relevant to paediatric surgery, including bowel anastomosis, oesophageal atresia, neonatal laparotomy, Stamm gastrostomy and more, with PBA on offer.

A one-day introduction to robotic-assisted surgery, combining core principles of safe robotic practice with practical training on the Cornerstone Sentire RAS System.

The GOSH BRC's Paediatric Excellence Initiative (PEI) and GOSH Charity are delighted to host the inaugural National Paediatric Translational Research Conference.

This year's symposium will focus on Education in Paediatric Surgery, examining current challenges, innovations and future opportunities in surgical training. The 78th Simpson-Smith Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Mr Joe Curry, Paediatric Neonatal and Specialist Paediatric Colorectal Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital and current President of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons.

Course Objectives: To equip surgeons who treat children with paediatric knowledge and skills to enable them to confidently and safely deal with paediatric surgical care. To inform all surgeons in training of the unique factors around paediatric surgical care.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS OPEN. The meeting will have RCS CPD approval. There will be trainee research oral presentations competing for the SRS prestigious Patey Prize, and significant Surgeon Scientists will deliver inspirational talks.

This in person course is aimed towards senior paediatric surgery trainees due to take their exit examination and will cover the breadth of the syllabus.
