BAPS Presidential Election
Our current past President Mr Ian Sugarman demits in Summer 2025. Ian has been a stalwart of BAPS for many years holding numerous offices in addition to the Presidency and – whilst he continues his advocacy for surgeons and their associations as the FSSA President – his presence on our trustees committee will be sorely missed. We will thus be shortly electing a new President. This is a 4 year commitment with 1 year as President-Elect, 2 years as President and 1 year as Past-President. The process is laid out in our Trustees Recruitment Policy (2020) and is:
Application for the post is by 300 word personal statement, curriculum vitae and support of two proposers, both of whom must be current full BAPS members in good standing, submitted to the Honorary Secretary in writing (email or paper).
If more than one nomination by candidate is received, an election will be held and the personal statements will be published to the electorate. The successful candidate will be by simple majority if there are only 2 candidates. If there are more than 2 candidates, an election by single transferable vote will be held. Canvassing by the candidates is prohibited and includes: telephone canvassing, circulation of promotional materials (either printed or electronic), personal appeals.
If you would like to know more about the role then I would encourage you to get in touch with Sean and Ian.
The timeline for the election will be:
Nominations close 21/1/25
Voting opens 27/1/25 (and closes 17/2/25)
