Advancing paediatric surgery through education and research

Children’s Operating Theatre opens in Uganda

for parents

Uganda’s first ever operating theatre dedicated to paediatric surgery has opened this week.  Over 20 million children live in Uganda, but up to now there existed no theatre designed just for them.  Dr John Sekabira (a BAPS Hugh Greenwood Fellow and Lecturer at last year’s BAPS Congress)  and his two colleagues have worked hard to achieve this development, assisted by the money raising efforts of ARCHIE, the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital amongst others.

The new theatre is based at the Naguru Hospital, Kampala, and George Youngson, one of the surgeons from Aberdeen, was at the opening.  You can read an extended news article about this event on The Press and Journal website.
